————————

Beyond oblivion.

Japan’s silk industry, which was at its peak around 1900, is now in the lurch.

The silkworm became a chrysalis and fell into an eternal sleep, wrapped in the shelter of the threads it had spun into itself.

Once again, we are unraveling the “spill cocoons” that were weeded out because they could not be commercialized due to their distorted shapes.

Shape, color, smell, sound, texture, temperature.

Memories that were spilling out

It emerges on the soft film of life.

Countless memories float in the air.

Is that appearance a cloud?

Steam?

Smoke?

Is it fog?

Is it a dream? That is what ARECHINO has captured.

ARECHINO profile

Formed in 2019, ARECHINO is a photography art group created by Serina Arai and Maru Hirokawa.

Returning to the origins of photography as a “thing” that you can hold in your hands, they continue to research materials that connect photography and craft.

Via a method that crosses freely between the worlds of digital and analog, their art is an observation of the passing of time and the hazy nature of memory itself.

Serina Arai and Marin Hirokawa were born in Saitama Prefecture and are childhood friends.

Crossing between digital and analaog, they observe the passing of time and hazy memories that are destined to one day disappear.

With constant research into various materials, they continue to come back to photography as object.
